Undefeated Justify is the 13th Triple Crown Winner!

Only the second undefeated Triple Crown victor in history, Justify helps Bob Baffert also become only the second trainer to win the Triple Crown twice. Mike Smith was the winning jockey, and it was his third winning ride in the Belmont Stakes.

European invader Gronkowski was second. Hofburg was third. Vino Rosso was fourth.

Beginning his career in February Justify went on to become the first horse since Apollo in 1882 to win the Kentucky Derby without having raced at two. It was the rainiest Kentucky Derby on record. He won a muddy and foggy Preakness Stakes at Pimlico, and now on a Sunny day at Belmont Park – after six straight winning races – Justify can finally take some time off after taking home the Triple Crown.

Justify Works in Bullet Time for Belmont

In his first work since the Preakness Stakes, Justify breezed four furlongs in 46.80, fastest out of 40 horses working the same distance this morning at Churchill Downs. Justify will go to Belmont Park next week for his chance at the Triple Crown. The Belmont Stakes is Saturday, June 9th. The work can be seen at 16:40 in the video.

Justify Clears the Fog in Preakness Stakes

Tested by Good Magic throughout a muddy Grade 1, 1 3/16 mile Preakness Stakes, Justify stays undefeated and will have a chance at the Triple Crown on Saturday, June 9th in the Grade 1 Belmont Stakes. It was the second Preakness win for jockey Mike Smith.

D. Wayne Lukas trainee Bravazo closed in for second place, with Tenfold taking third as Good Magic was swept back to fourth in nearly a blanket finish. Looks like Justify could use a few extra days off… He’ll have three weeks until the mile and a half Belmont.

Trainer Bob Baffert is now 5 for 5 with his Kentucky Derby winners in the
Preakness, and has won the Preakness 7 times. Of course, American Pharoah was his first Dual Classic winner to take the Triple Crown. Can Justify become his second?
